in the way i fall asleep
i do fall
so thoroughly
and so very well
falling through an imaginary place until
the comforting scoop
of a dream world
before it turns dark
or falling
almost there
hoping for release
and r.e.m.
but denied
landing with a start
back in bed
to begin again
the ceiling invisible
shadows creeping
never black enough
for perfect absence
hello darkness, my old friend
and insomnia, you old dog
we all meet again
this night
like so many others
