after sunset, sunset park (13/4)

her shadow moves in the night with the others
underneath puerto rican banners
and at odds with the sound of race-non-specific hip hop
blasting from a car somewhere on the next block

she smiles at the nesquik billboard
and its spanish phrasings
making a mental note to take a photo
for her sister
as they walk past bodegas
and pizza places
and burrito joints
none of them open

sunset park, brooklyn
the narcoleptic sister
of the city that never sleeps
