dumplings on dominion

decadent waves of consumers
struggling to stab and snaffle
their plump pillowy joy
first the middle aged pakeha
perhaps out of their comfort zone
‘it had the best review in the herald, bev!’
then, later the loyal chinese fan base
happily at home behind the menus
bilingual, though one supposes
the characters flow more neatly
than the broken english
advertising gizzards and the like
and in the small hours
of the next day
leaning on each other
glasses askew and hair mussed twice
the hipster kids arrive
chewing on chive pancakes
and talking about the antioxidants
in their green tea
the perfect accompaniment
to five smirnoff ices
