teens tempestuous in tartan

lying in the sand
of the tennis court
gritty against arms
where blouse sleeves
should be
rolled up
tie loosened
black knee socks
falling down
staring at the sky
fingers touching
no hand holding
can’t take chances
hair unbound
ribbon off to the side
this is my rebel yell
and yours
we cry out to the clouds
before they rain on us
and we appreciate it
gym tunics heavy
and damp
sand clinging
to our calves
