red

would you not fear for your
child’s life / in these woodlands
these thoughts / i should not have
mama knows best
packing baskets / giving guidance
sending me on my merry way
red and white gingham
spots in my eyes
wicker wedged in the crook
of my small arm
winds catching in trees
and around my cloak
i wrap it more tightly around
as i make the trek
to grandma’s house
