city slickers

as you fall into the night
wrenching yourself up
out into the world
darkness altogether
unknown

this is the city
we don’t deal in absolutes
call me when you
can see the stars
number what they should
when you cannot see
a grey reflection
of an insurance building
in yesterday’s puddle
the city’s heat sink
drawing in every season
from across the globe
